I actually like right-click selection, and it works on my desktop as well. Now selecting an area of an item, that should definitely be left click! I have to have a utility running so I can use the middle button instead...right click drag selection is still unco for me (after 2+ years with reaper, so I don't think it's changing)... :D Great to see you found an easter egg Dave (and nice playing btw also).
Well, I have only been using REAPER for a couple months now, but you certainly saved me some aggravation because I was already wondering how to do this, so thanks. Off topic: Other people's comments here prompted me to listen to some of your stuff. It's very good. 'Making Me Wings' is a huge standout for me. Is there a story to this at all, as in when/how it was written, what the inspiration was, etc? How would you describe the time signature? To me, it sounds like you go through 3 bars of 5/4 followed by a single bar of 3(and)/4? Love it.
The BIG problem with this though is if you're using windows on a bootcamped macbook pro,you cant easily right click and drag so it's imposible to work without a mouse!and who wants to have to connect a mouse when you're using a laptop on the road? Marcus
I was lucky my first few days with Reaper. I got on Reaper Chat and asked a few question like how to lasso. I think it was Steindork that told me about the right click lasso thing. Saved me some time. It is weird to a lot of people. It is one of the 3 or 4 things that are really different in Reaper than most/all other DAWs and when I get friends to give Reaper a try I have to tell them a bit of a 'cheat sheet' to clear those things up. Yeah, you could read the manual- but a lot of people will just give Reaper a quick try to see how it is. They probably are not going to read the whole manual.
For anyone else out there that hasn't found everything, a little tip: Left click and right click on everything, scroll wheel on everything, then repeat with modifiers Ctrl, Alt and Shift, they pretty much all do something of great usefulness. Then try Arrow keys with and without modifiers as well, and also try all this stuff in the Midi editor. Try mouse wheels over volume and pan faders with and without control. Try dragging the ends of items with and without modifiers and see what happens If you are into automation try mouse and modifiers on envelopes - start with Shift + left mouse button first - then pull some nodes around with Ctrl or Alt held down. See what happens when you select more than one node when you do this. Pretty soon you get the hang of the idea - everything does something in Reaper. :)
Better late than never! :) This is definitely a major sticking point with people, especially new users coming from another daw. It felt a little weird to me at first, but I'm so used to it now I don't even notice. Still, if Reaper were to swap the left/right click functions it would probably make more sense and make a lot of people happy...
Well cool I just discovered that pressing the scroll wheel while hovering over an item will let you move the play back cursor or time line thingy to where ever you click. I used to have to click up top in the time line.It will also let you drag it anywhere you want. Shoot I reckon! We need a video titled Weird shit in Reaper you need to know.

I wonder if there's anyone that doesn't know that if you Ctrl-Alt-leftclick a track's fx button, it removes all the fx? That's real handy if you have a long chain. I only just discovered that a couple of weeks back, lucky I didn't FR it! Maybe it was something I learnt and then swiftly forgot... :D
