Liquid, I have an approximate idea of what you mean and am sure I want it. But if it is what I think, (and I can't be sure, because you just never elaborate or give a link to a corresponding thread) I don't like the term you chose for it. What about ghost controllers? Dwarf audio or secret agent automation seem to be cool ideas, too :). Sorry I couldn't resist to make my fun out of this... don't feel offended, I mean no harm and as I said I've got the impression I do want ghost notes too. Please provide a link where others could read about the subject.
gofer, let's say you have the piano MIDI arrangement on channel 1. Then you move over to channel 2 to do the strings. Ghost notes (if I am not completely deluded) will allow you to see the content/notes of channel 1 in the background (faded/non editable) as you are working on channel 2. In the piano roll you will have the ch.1 piano arrangement visible in the same timeline that you're doing the ch.2 strings arrangement. I am not the best at explaining stuff but I hope the meaning comes through.

Ghost notes/channels is that you have notes of a channel "ghosted" (in different color)in the midi editor while you write notes in your current channel in the same midi editor so you have a reference. This funcion is in FL Studio and others. My english is really bad but hope you understand. EDIT: Oh! Thanks Evan for the explaining.
