hmm, well that sucks... well then, what is the MAX average bitrate I should try to keep the quality then? So even if I encode at VBR 9000kbps (not that I am), I will still lose quality? What kbps do you guys recommend me reencoding these vcds to?

you are going to get some loss, mainly cause of the decoding. my suggestion for you is to encode them as VBR 2mbit (or lower) and go from there, try it at different bitrates for a few and pick what you like. Enf...

You could also just keep them as mpeg1 video, and re-encode the audio to 48khz. DVD can use mpeg1 upto 1856kb/s 352x240(288 for PAL), it follows the constraint parameters set rules. Sorry, I just learned to read :confused: Have you updated your PS2's dvd? I did mpeg1 on a dvd for a friend, and it worked fine. He bought his PS2 less than 3months ago. I know some of the older PS2's have playback problems.
