This is more of a Battery question perhaps (I have a post on another board), but I am running PTLE and maybe it is the problem. There is a feature in Battery that allows you to assign a loop to a sample pad and then modulate the Start Point of that sample with some source, like Velocity. There are a few settings that you can set so that this start point modulation is 'quantized'. In all my attempts, when I do this, the loop is played back unquantized and stutters and hiccups and sounds like crap. A user on the NI board told me that the fact that I have "N/A" in my tune setting display and my Start Point display indicate that PT is not letting Battery know what tempo it is playing back at. Hopefully somebody out there knows what I am talking about. I'm actually not so sure this could even be the problem because through my entire exercise, I never change the BPM, so the tuning should remain at 100%. Can anyone shed some light???

Isn't this effect for VST instruments only, not usable via Direct Connect? Back when I came to this conclusion I gave up trying to use it. Would be great though if it works. Do tell if you discover a solution!

As Amadeu mentioned, enable midi beat clock. Battery will now follow tempo changes. You can also play with your FX Loop-Loop Count and Loop Length to sync triggered loops
Shameless, so are you saying that this works for you?? In Battery, when a ProTools song is playing, your tune knob (when set to note tuning) displays the bpms of the PT song? Mine just says n/a. I have enabled the Midi Clock out and am sending it through every bus. I still see nothing and the start point modulation sounds terrible, even on a very strictly quantized loop. Let me know if you think there are any other settings or ways I can test this. Thanks, Tim.
I'd like to chime in again since this feature would be useful if it will work for me, so I'm quite interested. So far, I've checked MBC in PT and I've also still not been able to sync Battery to MIDI clock. "N/A" next to the note symbol for me too. If indeed this feature is functional in PTLE 5.1.1, I'd love to know the setings needed.
Your right, I am talking about RTAS Battery. I would check the NI website and make sure your up to date. Stand alones can be tricky and problems with Stand alones can be more system dependant. Sorry I cant help more. These guys are very helpful NI USA support is toll free: Tel. 866-556-6487
I was on the phone with a Sweetwater Rep today and he had it working. I could hear it through the phone, sounded cool! He too said that he did not have N/A. One difference with him is that he is running the Battery version that runs in ProTools. He said there is no difference, but the more I think about it, I feel like this may be the problem. So, maybe a new question. Can anybody out there who is running Battery via DirectConnect able to set the Tune or the Start Point knob to a Note Duration and not get the dreaded "N/A"???? If so, maybe you can let us know what your set up is?
Stands to reason then, since RTAS is Pro Tool's equivalent to VST. (I want the RTAS version dog bandit!) Wait, then I guess Kontact via DC will probably be n/a sync too. As I understand it, (and I really hope I'm mistaken,) is there's just the pricey "Pro Tool's edition" NI bundled software offer for Battery RTAS. A dissapointment for Battery (DC) owners (like moi) who were told of an upcoming RTAS version back in it's initial release and had assumed it would be a standard update. ------------------------------- DC...you know, Don't Connect?
I spoke with NI last night. At first I was encouraged because he said it would work and that he just needed me to get in front of my machine to see what the problem might be. He called me back and said 'you know what, i guess it doesn't work'. He didn't know why, but yeah, same thing, as a stand alone, for some reason, Battery isn't getting the MIDI clock. He said he was going to call Digi last night and go through it and maybe have a programmer look at it. I'll call him back today. DIGI - THIS IS CRAZY!!! I don't know who's issue this really is. But the facts are that PT CAN send MIDI clock, we know that works. Battery can receive it from other programs. This can't be that hard to solve. This is a critical feature really that all of us would like to see work. Chime in if you can lend any support. Thanks.
