Can anyone help us? Last year I inherited a 1995 yellow Volvo t5r estate it has covered 38'000 miles and has spent most of its life parked in a garage. We like the car and use it regularly, but it has a few problems, and I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction. 1) front suspension is knocky especially on full lock. 2) keyless entry unreliable and has now failed completly, key works fine. 3) cranks over before starting ,is this normal or do they catch instantly? 4) seems a bit slow to rev up, and down, not what I'd call a "perky" engine. The car was allways serviced and the only non standard addition seems to be a stainless exhuast, the cat is still there. Any help would be apreciated. GM

1. 2. The remotes pack up eventually, cure is new ones. 3. Clean the throttle body & idle air valve. 4. as 3 and see how it goes. Does the car make full boost? at WOT the gauge should be 80% into the white area.

Sounds like a lovely car, any pics? What cars are you comparing it to when you say it seems slow to gain/lose revs as compared to some engines I've had (e.g. Honda VTEC) it is definitely slower. Every T5 I've had has turned over at least once before firing but if it's cranking for more than a second or two there's something not quite right. Cheers, John

Thankyou for your replies! I allways admired the Volvo when my uncle had it so I was pleased to aquire it ,my wife loves it its a lot more practicle than her old espada and a bit faster too. I think the suspension knocks might be a little more serious as it knocks and clunks when the brakes are initially applied, also when I apply lock, left or right it protests loudly. I compare the Volvo to the only other turbo cars I,ve had ,Subaru STi and a Golf GTI both seemed to rev freely, the Volvo on the other hand feels like I have to wind it up and only seems to cruise along at just over 80mph, anything less than this feels like you want to drop down a gear. Its a manual by the way. This car has a lot of sentimental value to us and we are keen to get her going as she should .Maybe being laid up in a garage for years did it no favours?? I will try to sort out a few pics ,its just like a new car! we even aquired a new set of Pzero,s (all hard) discs/pads/service parts/7th seats and headlamp gaurds all new it was like chritmas when you were 6 and you got you first proper bike! Sounds like the suspension bushes/mounts might be badly perished. How long has the car been sat for as it may well be in need of an oil change, spark plugs, HT leads etc if it's been garaged for a few years. Looking forwards to the pics :)
