Hey folks, I'm looking for any and all ideas on how to make an electric guitar sound as close to an acoustic as possible. Yes, I realize they are completely different animals, and it can never been done 100% convincingly, but I need to do what I can. This is for live-performance, and it is problematic to have more than 1 guitar onstage (for complicated reasons.) I'm looking for ALL options, cost not an issue: Plugins. Special pickups. New guitar if I must. etc etc. --------- The only thing that I cannot consider is an bulky, external piece of hardware, like a Roland floorboard device. Again, no room. Except for the guitar & pickup, everything must be either software-based, or a very small piece of hardware that could go into a rack. Thanks.

Shemp was asking about making an electric bass sound like double bass in this thread: This was my effort using an impulse in Reaverb: DRY: WITH IMPULSE (and reacomp): I think it gets it quite a bit of the way there. Maybe you could locate an impulse that would help in your situation - you'd just then have make sure that reaverb latency wasn't a problem for live work. There is one here you could try: Or I believe the Line 6 Variax models an acoustic guitar

That sounds pretty convincing Spike. Do I detect a bit of 'The Chicken' in that bass line? Cableaddict: There's the Boss AC-3, which is quite small. Pete

It helps if your electric already has a good tone when played unplugged otherwise even with bridge implants it won't really work The Variax, already mentioned might work out, as would the Parker fly. If you want to modify a guitar (harmlessly) you can get piezo bridge pieces like this one for a strat from Graph Tech

Do you know what occurs to me is the thing most missing from the sound of these electric pickups is nothing to do with the string vibration, that's easy to to do, it's the wood. It adds a different dimension to the sound, and the only effect I can think of that comes close to emulate that sort of thing is like a speaker cab impulse. I don't mean use a cab impulse, I mean if you could get/make impulses from different acoustic guitars to add to an acoustic pickup it would be really interesting, maybe my Taylor could sound like a Hummingbird. Sorry that doesn't really help but sometimes these ideas lead somewhere

I've used the Boss Acoustic Simulator pedal in the past with good results. It is a bit pricey though but then again - it is a Boss.:)

Try Nusofting Deepboard, it'll make your guitar sound like a piezo- , You could take that and run it into one of my acoustic amp sims, Dudeler or Dudeosity, they're at . You'll note in these that the 1st 3 presets are for distorted electric and the last 3 are acoustic. Then there's Boss/Behringer acoustic emulator pedals, I love the Behringer one, worth trying out in a store and hasn't broken on me.
