It is the external ambient temperature guage. It is for the instrument binnacle that is square shaped rather than tapered at each side (as in the later models). The snowflake led is to indicate when the external temperature is about 2 degrees C. You will also require the sender unit that fits near the bottom of the radiator on the drip tray (I think).

If you can get the sender I'd be interested in buying it from you if it won't fit your car. I have one but the sender is damaged. The sender (on mine) is fitted under the front bumper on the drivers side, behind the fog lights etc.

On the face theres a square red light at the top, under that theres the digital bit (like an old calculator) and under that theres a picture of a thermometer with different levels marked, similar to one on a coolant temp gauge- no snowflake! Yes the bit of the binnacle it came from is square! I have the wiring that went under the dashboard and connected onto the light switch but I didnt take out the wiring that led to the front of the car, If I remember right it went round the drivers side riner wing, across the front and dissapeared into the area around the air filter. Ill have to go back and retrieve it. Ive no idea if its actually working or not, I just removed it as a bit of an oddity! Seeing as it wont fit my car id be interesed in getting rid of it to any interested parties.

So is it definatly an outside temp thing? If it is, and im not too late in the queue, Id happily take it Tim while im up that way tomorrow. If you can direct me to the scrappie, i can try and get the remaining wire for it, although it will probably be like most other things i buy to fit, they never get done!

My offer still stands, but if James can physically get to it before me I guess there's not much I can do. Up to you Tim I'd very much like it but don't go to any trouble. All I need is the sensor which on mine is on the drivers side behind the fog lamp (not near the air filter)

yes, its an outside temp gauge. I've got one on my LHD 740 and find it to be quite accurate
