I'm posting this for all the people like myself who were mystfied by the click track situation. Here's how to run a click track from within the computer and hear it through Digi001 without patching it into your hardware inputs. Note: You need 5.0.1 for this. 1) Download and install direct connect from Digi. 2) Go to and download their FREE software synth and Tokyo app. Free! -----Isn't it nice to see free stuff that actually works? 3)Install the Tokyo app and the direct connect Tokyo Plug In (also avalable at Digidesign). 4) Configure OMS as per the Tokyo instructions. 5) Create a stereo aux input and a midi track. On the aux, insert the Tokyo plug in and set it for stereo outputs 1-2. On the midi track, select channel one. 6) In your Tokyo app, select the free vibra1000 synth. 6) In your MIDI transport window contols, double click the metronome and select channel one for the output of the click track. Bring up your volumes and voila, click track comes out of Digi001s outputs. 7) Go into your software synth and adjustthe sound to your liking. I'm terrible at instructions, but if you follow the instructions that come with Tokyo and Direct Connect, this works real easy. Good luck and click away!
You also could have checked the Digi001 FAQ site an found that you could set-up Quick-time to do it and output the click out the 1/8'' output of the computer. One question: how's it working?? Is there a delay/lag when you start it?? Please write back if possible.
Well, Im feeling pretty proud of myself. I actually got through this set up...and it works! The 5.0.1 upgrade actually puts some of these files on your system and the 5.0.1 addendum manual gives some instructions on the direct connect set up. The rest can be read from the Tokyo download docs. The only thing I'm not real thrilled about are the sounds. You can't get a stick ckick outta the Vibra synth. Are there other synths that are free downloads with different sounds? As far as delay, There's about a half a second delay before the click starts after you hit play. KS

uncleM, That's what I was looking to avoid, giving up an output outta your drum module and an input track to get a click...and this vibra thing is doing the trick. I did mess with the sound and got a decent tone. I hope my drummer likes it. That old stick click is out dated anyway! KS
I am using the Koblo Tokyo Synthesizer for a click track and I can't find any sounds on it that resemble a stick click. Can anybody refer a different down loadable synth that has "stick click" sounds( or something close).?? Thanks, KS
Vsamp 3.03. $25, kicks butt, 8-16-24 bit. you supply the samples. i route out the iac bus to get to Vsamp, then run vsamp out sound mangler and into digi(actually mackie-then digi). no direct connect available. you can STILL run koblo or whatever while running vsamp if you have the ram. i made a drum kit out of about 4 kits i have recorded in the studio. just take a hit off the tracks and load into vsamp. samples can be as long as the ram in your machine will hold. hell, i sampled a 10 minute tune(stereo) into the thing.
Here's the hassle-free, poor man's internal click: 1) Metronome--->Digi001 (via metronome headphone out, etc.) 2) Record 10 minutes of it (or however much you need for the tune) whilst drinking a couple beers 3) Unplug metronome Viola! All inputs are free and you've got plenty of click track, "stick click" sound and all! Best of all, it won't be dependent upon your buffer setting and it'll always be locked. Better yet, try this on for size: 1) One day, while you've got some time on your hands, do exactly what I have described above for all speeds on your metronome you think you might use. 2) Then, save all those raw audio files in one folder titled "Click Tracks", labeled with their respective BPM speeds. 3) When you need a click track at a certain BPM, reference your metronome to see what you need, then simply import the audio file into your session. This way, you've always got your internal click available without having to deal with anything other than an audio file. Let me answer a couple questions a few of you might have... 1) "What if I recorded the click at 44.1k and I'm in a 48k session?" Use the "Convert and Import Audio" option rather than just import (in the pull-down menu of the regions list) - or (with even more time on your hands) record/preconvert the same click tracks to both 44.1 and 48. 2) "I NEED 24 tracks, and you're telling me to take up a whole track just for click?" Well, yes and no. It is an audio file and will reside on an audio track, but think about it - you only NEED 24 tracks when you're finally mixing down (which obviously won't include the click track)...and when you're tracking drums, you'll only have 8-10 tracks taken up (generously speaking) and once you've got drums tracked, why do you need a click track? (yes, yes, I know, you may need a couple measures to let you know when to come in on first beat, if it starts right away...have your drummer click his own sticks in the overs for that). 3) "What's BPM?" Beats Per Minute. 4) "Why is this stupid post about click tracks so long?" As one author put it: I would have made this shorter, but I didn't have the time. 5) "Now you're just asking novelty questions to garner some cheap laughs, aren't you?" Yes. And to make this long post even longer, you can put the click audio on any track you've got, just make a different playlist for it. Like I said earlier, you don't NEED to hear that one-word-long harmony vox part while you're doing guitar overdubs. Pop the click on that, in a differnt playlist and you're good to go. All this to say: If you sit and think about it for more than 4 seconds, you can really make Pro Tools do anything you need it to. I didn't post the elongated message above just to see it float towards the bottom of the threads... what do you guys think about the click track bank? Useful, stupid?
