I guess I could try going back to 3.76, but I don't know if that would fix anything. Can I have 3.76 installed without installing 4.02? going back to 3.xx would be sucky after getting used to 4.xx

Well, it was worth a shot. Since I don't use 4 I can't really do anything else. Considering it's not "all over" the forum, it could very well be something specific to your setup. Not what you want to hear, but must be explored. Just for the sake of interest, what are your current specs including the soundcard. And if I may ask, this is a new computer and you did everything "fresh"?
well, I've narrowed it down to the fact that i can open the project and mix the songs forever, but if I adjust any of the parameters in any of the plugins, it goes into flake mode and crashes. At this point I'm just trying to narrow down the symptoms and trying to see if anyone else has the same issue before reporting a bug.
i have the same processor and soundcard i had constant crashes with bridging on both versions x64 x86, i went into options, put only native plugins as the option, then i started using JBridge, hasnt crashed since. (knocks on wood)
The whole bridging is rather shakey. There are several options available like "run plugin in seperate process" and such. Unfortunately not every plugin likes the same settings. After having had lotsa crashes/hangs, often when closing plugin windows after I changed something on the GUI, I decided to check out the settings for the plugins that give me trouble. I didn't work through all of my plugins yet but most of them are safe now. Autosave seems to be a part of the problem though. BTW, I'm on win7x64 with R4x64.
All I can do is keep stating "cliche" type things that might sound stupid.....but it HAS helped others in the past. Are the drivers x64 version? Any kind of antivirus/spycheck stuff on? Have you run a registry repair/defrag? The only other thing I can think of are time consuming stuff like starting a project with no plug in enabled and going through them one by one.

No problems here, but I AM running reaper 32 under win7 64bit, which my well be the difference. Is there any particular reason you HAVE to run R64bit? I would be inclined to sidestep the whole issue by running 32 reaper and worry about a fix when you HAVE to go 64bit in Reaper. Bear in mind that you can run plugs as separate processes, each with its own 2gb+ allocation of ram, depending on how much you actually have. There are a number of threads on just this subject,
I'm thinking now that it may have been an issue with autosave. I haven't put it through the ringer yet, but I worked for 20 min last night on the same mix that was crashing before and it didn't crash once. I'll just have to get used to pushing ctrl-s all the time again.
bozmillar, check your inbox sent you a message, i've been doing some troubleshooting all week, trying different buffering settings, audio device settings, then i let a 16 bar clip just loop for hours since i can't reproduce the crash by a specific command. Tried native, and bridging, jbridge didnt work, started crashing too. Problem is as bozmillar said, it brings down my entire machine, even distorts the graphics and glitch/beeps come out of the speakers, serious detective work going on
