OK after spending hours agonising whether or not to make this public or not, here's my first reaper only effort, any criticisms, constructive or otherwise most welcome, particularly regarding the production side of things...... *Please note, contains a sample which some may find offensive......*
Har! :D That was fun... no radio play for this one. ;) I was trying to imagine what the crowd dancing to that might look like. :) And be buzzed on... The production seems fine to me, maybe a little more bass.
Wasn't that sample used by another D&B tune? I have a copy of it somewhere, grabbed it of of Usenet. It doesn't use the F word part, but does use the whole "dogs filth scum" bit.

...for your input, much appreciated :D Drillbit: Thanks so much for taking the time to offer so much useful criticism, unfortunately my computer has been playing up so I've not had a chance to do a side by side comparison yet, though I'm sure the mastering you did will make a difference as that is my weakest area production wise.... I actually forgot to stick a limiter on the master bus when I rendered, which is why the levels are so low, I'm gonna do a bit of eqing in the areas you suggested - I don't have monitors (yet) so I do all my mixing on headphones (which are flat....allegedly anyway....) and use my hifi as a reference, not ideal, I know, but beggars and all that...... Love the idea about filtering the sample, and will extend the groove (I was a bit worried about it getting too repetitive, but it's par for the course in this genre) I'm gonna post another finished tune, I'd love to get your input on that one too if you have the time.... Edit: Having problems downloading the file you posted drillbit..... Bardo: Yes I'm planning on filling it out a bit, but I've promised myself to try and keep things relatively simple - less being more and all that, which kinda answers your question about headspace... Also with the sub I eqed the bass kicks, the subs, and the reese (synthy growling bass sound) so they didn't encroach too much on eachother.... Thanks for taking the time to listen!
Thanks again drillbit, gonna dl it now, not sure what the problem is with the stashbox link but everytime I tried it only dled 28k or so... I'm well aware about the problems mixing over phones, but your advice regarding using them sparingly and sticking to the stereo is a sound idea that I hadn't considered - much thanks once again!
