Any help with this complex problem would be much appreciated. I am currently running Pro Tools LE with an 002 console on a 1.5Ghz Powerbook with 512MB RAM I have two external drives, an older Lacie fw400 and a Lacie D2. My sessions were originally recorded on a TDM system and I am using the Powerbook set up for mixing. The older Lacie was my primary drive and the D2 backup for my personal sessions. For my band, we record on the D2 and use the older drive for backup. I had not listened to any of my personal mixes for several months up until the other night. I did a new mix for one of my songs and everything was running smoothly. The whole system froze during playback and then somehow unfroze itself. I did a couple more tweaks, saved and quit. The next night, when I went to open the file, I got a message that 100 or so files were at playback volumes unsuitable for playback. I was prompted to transfer the files over to more suitable volumes, but when I attempted to do so, I got a message that "Therapist" is not an audio playback volume. This is a very curious message, as "Therapist" was the name of the drive and should have nothing to do with the session itself. All my attempts at troubleshooting have left me even more puzzled. All of the songs are opening fine from the D2 drive so i copied a file from the D2 drive onto the "Therapist" drive to try and "override" the problem. This did not work at all. The file from the D2 still opens fine, but the file from the "Therapist" drive gives me the exact same problem. I have know idea how this could be since I overwrote the old "Therapist" file. More confusion: I never saved the new mix i did the other night onto the D2 and figured this mix may be a loss since i have been unable to open it. However, once I copied the file onto the D2, it opened without a hitch. Also, my band's demo opens fine from the "Therapist" drive. This material was recorded using the 002 and the Powerbook onto the D2 and backed up onto the other Lacie. So the "Therapist" drive is not totally "corrupt" or unusable but i can't access the majority of my material on it. Knowing it probably wouldn't make a difference, but not knowing what else to do, i changed the name of the older Lacie drive from "Therapist" to "EGO". Now, I get the same problem but the message says that "EGO" is not an audio playback volume. As this were not confusing enough, since having the problem with the older drive, I decided to try and do some work off the D2 drive. After about an hour of work, I began to hear a static-like hum with playback stopped. The hum is not only audible when playback is stopped, it is visible on the Aux Send and Master meters and is now present when I pull up a version of the mix from over a year ago!!! I know this is an extremely long-winded post but I have described my problem(s) as directly as I possibly could. Please help and thank you in advance. I don't want to start adding RAM or upgrading to 6.9 till I know what the actual problem is. Thank you again, Greg Golden Extremely Confused Pro Tools Newbie
