Hi, I make hip-hop beats so do this quite often. I'll have a 32 bar project, mixed and uploaded to Soundcloud. Then some I really like I will make into a full 3/4 min song. Is the best and safest way just to do a 'save as' and have a new version with all the media files in both as I have always done? I was looking into the project within a project new thing but tbh didn't really understand it. Andy

Cheers for replying mate. Yeah that's what I've always done. I mean I've finished the 32 bar one. Just want to basically 'remix' it but don't want to lose it. That's cool. Tbh I need a clearout of tons of rubbish projects that will free discspace anyway. Andy

Sorry mate do you mean the action 'Save new version of project'? that's the nearest I can find?

That's just a variation of "Save as..." that auto-suffixes a version number on the end without asking you for a new name. It saves you project under this new name rather than saving a copy under a new name and continuing with the old name. The actions I suggested for a FR do not exist (AFAICT) presently. >

yeah I just realised that. Sorry but I don't really understand what you are saying. What's FR and AFAICT? I'm not big on actions etc. I'd rather just make music that assign keystrokes that I forget 5 mins later. I even have to Google Windows Copy/Paste sometimes. My brain isn't built for that hahaha

Sorry, FR is a feature request (there's a forum section for these, were you request new features) AFAICT is one of those phrase abbreviations "As far as I can tell" like IMHO, YMMV, RTFM... :) google them or see ... >

What am I missing here? Click on "Save as" in the file menu instead of just "save" and save it as a different name with the "create folder" option checked. Job done, surely?

Ivan, yes, but "Save copy as" leaves your current project with its present name while saving it at this stage under a different name. Especially useful if there's a "launch copy in new project tab" option in the filename dialogue. Look at Notepad++ It's a workflow thing, takes a step out in certain jobs, let's you think and work in a straight line instead of backtracking ;) >

I tried that Ivanc but it just dumped everything into my Reaper projects folder. I assumed that as I have the create folder and a Media Items folder inside it as project preferences it would have done that. I didn't see a create new folder option but will have a look. I just did it manually in the end in the File Browser.
