v4.30 on a Quadcore, 4 gigs ram. Since v4.0 I've noticed a lot of fragmented files after a recording session, doesn't do anything to performance, I defrag a lot. Both oS and Audio drives are new Seagate 500G and 1T, never more than half-full, etc, etc. I noticed in Preferences/general/Advanced UI system tweaks, a section specifically for Win 2000/XP that has to do with restricting worker threads to different CPUs, and a min/max setting for working set size. Before I go blindly try these, has anyone had experience with these? Could this be contributing to fragmenting files? Justin?

The text actually says "Win2000/XP+", meaning "and higher" (IOW not for Win98) and the options are affecting CPU and RAM usage, not disk. BTW I was under the impression the fragmentation issue was cleared up in your ? If not, please bump that thread for further troubleshooting (so we don't go twice through what we got already).

thanks for replying, ollie! I guess you're saying that cpu and ram usage won't affect disc continuity. I just saw this and thought maybe using winxp in v4+ might need some tweaking to work well. TO BE CLEAR: no problems with performance, flashing red bars, etc. Just at some point, recording became fragmented to the drive, and although there's no effect on my workflow, it bothers me, re:OCD issues ;)

hmm, that is interesting. I'm still wondering though, what do the parameters for Win2000/XP+ in Advanced UI tweaks do? I'm going to re-post to see if anyone else knows - it's the one place there's no handy roll-over info.

Yes id love to know what these settings do, as I use an older XP machine single core P4 1.7Ghz I wonder if tweaking any of these would give me the best performance possible from my old laptop?
