1 Min of Capture = 1 gig AVI....????

I have an AverDVD Ezmaker capture card using Dazzle DVD Complete software. Now I've read the usually 18mins of capture will equal about 4gig AVI. I end up with an 18gig (1min=1gig) AVI. Why is this? Am I doing something wrong or is it the card?

hello, u haven't used any compression on the video. Uncompressed video is this big. 4gb avis uses the dv codec, the same one that digital cameras use. A codec that compresses to 5:1 or 28mbs, that is about 5 times less compression than a typical movie on a dvd. On your recording's setup define the dv codec to achieve this size.

Thanks for replying! The problem is that in DVD Complete there is no codec to choose from. Just straight capture. What's the best free software to use or is there a way to use a codec with DVD Complete?
