You don't have to run Jack/wineasio under a realtime kernel. Jack is easy to install and should be available from your package manager. If not, it's pretty painless compiling and installing from source. Try this article for more information, but be aware that some software will now be at a higher version.

Thanks, I will try installing them both, and hopefully I can get some audio recorded. On the plus side, I HAVE been able to record audio through Ubuntu's simple sound recorder. So I know things are in place. Ubuntu is pretty good on AUTOMATICALLY supporting alot of hardware, I am pleasantly surprised.

Thanks again sji. After getting Wineasio installed, I was able to record audio into Reaper no problem just by setting the correct hardware input in the Linux interface as pictured. I did have a little problem running "make" on the package, but googled the error I was getting and found a guy that made a script that installs everything: wine, jack, wineasio, etc, and that is here: The script gets the newest versions which is nice, and doesn't mess with your kernel, so you don't have to worry about losing your video drivers and stuff. Hi, SumpM1, glad you got sorted :) I'm currently using opensuse 11. I've been having some problems with recent realtime kernels freezing (never had that issue on earlier RT kernels on opensuse 10.3). At the moment I'm using a non-realtime kernel and it works fine. Midi is all taken care of, I use an Edirol UM-1 adaptor which is connected to my Yamaha AN1x synth. I can select the device from within Reaper. I use VSTs in Reaper too. I've just bought Nepheton, Drumazon, Phoscyon and Devastor. They work without any problems. I also have ImpOSCar and I'm currently demoing Sylenth1. I've also used the demo version of FM8 in the past, as well as a whole bunch of freebies. I've even managed to run rebirth and rewire it to Reaper! I run everything using wine (currently have 1.1.8 installed), along with wineasio and JACK 0.116.1. I only have a cheap USB audio interface, but it does behave itself.

Oh, I didn't know that there was a such thing as a Linux snob! You prove me wrong sir. Yeah, I can't say that there are NO viruses in Linux. But from what I have seen, Linux just works.
