Pleased to see this forum come to life again now that I have managed to acquire a Volvo BUT I have had a recurring problem with my 93 940se auto. First noticed as started, pulled out of drive, engine stopped. On trying to re-start no warning lights displayed but petrol guage, heater fan and wireless arial still working. Took battery out and charged it. Car started. Next week same thing except car would not evn start to get it off the drive. Two days later it started. Took to garage. They checked it out and replaced alternator. One week later, Sunday 17 Aug, car started, out of drive and around corner - car stopped and no warning lights displayed - nothing working except fuel guage (I know I'm lucky to have one!!) Now charging battery again, even though charger indicator shows almost fully charged when I started. Any suggestions?? Have now put battery back on with several blasts of the alarm!). Started fine. Back onto drive. Have now noted that when ignition turned on Battery warning light does not show.

Is it something wrong with the ignition switch ? I know the radio and heater fan come on with the key in the first position, but the warning lights on do on the second. Something else I read but I don't know if its the cause of your problem.

Had a quick look but all wires at back in small loom and sealed connections. If thats the fault I guess I'll have to leave it to the professionals. ta

The problem will most likely be the ignition switch , not too expensive and easily changed. Mike

Many thanks. Second response from members pointing to the same thing. Have got an old 740 Haynes manual will see what it says about replcement procedure. If it works great otherwise I am booked into the garage again on Thursday to have a towbar fitted can now offer them some pointers. Thanks
