25 dollars is too much for this k meter, but I would buy one for five bucks. I'm still trying to get decent mixes. I think getting levels right is the first step, so I would love to be able to do that, but I have no idea, I really feel like I need to spend a day mixing alongside a pro to see how they get their levels where they want them, to really learn how. Anyway, besides levels and adding some compression, the quad compressors and exciters seem to 'glue" the mix together sometimes. Forget it, though, I don't think I can advance further without working alongside someone.

People Don't pay for one. Voxengo's wonderful SPAN has k-12, k-14 and k-20 scales. You also get a spectrum analyser for free too. [rant] Which reminds me that I'm not personally 'convinced' by the pleasurize music foundation or whatever they're called. Being told my recording has "only" 12dB dynamic range and i need to do something is a bit preachy by a piece of software that doesn't know anything about musical style, target market, etc, etc, etc. In this case, i'm talking about an acoustic recording of a single perfomer with no compression. Needs more dynamics they say. Right. I'd prefer Bob Katz over that any day. Much more sensible. [/rant]

I want to calibrate my monitoring system with the K-System. I own a digital sound level meter with dBA and dBC, fast and slow, settings. Though it is not a 1/3 octave, just a normal one. Can somebody point me to a tutorial in text or video that can show me a proper calibration procedure? Thanks.

The offline DR meter is almost useless (way too limited). It only accepts 16-bit 44.1kHz (CD-quality) WAV or MP3 files. Most of today's music is not sold on CDs, but distributed/sold online as digital downloads or on DVD media - all with a sample rate of 48 kHz. 48KHz is the new audio/video standard. 44.1 kHz is quickly becoming obsolete.
