Hi, I was wondering what's the best G4 to get for PT 6.0 using OSX? I have a G3 Mix Plus so I'll need to get a G4 before long. Is the DualProcessor G4 the way to go? Will PT6 take advantage of both processors? I've heard that the mirrored door DP's have a loud fan...the RAM is expensive...but on the other hand the RAM and internal bus are faster. Maybe the previous Quicksilver DP 1GHz G4 is the best? I hope we can get a list going of the pros and cons.

I say go with the laitest since it all gets outdated fast. Especially if you're planning on running the upcoming PT v6.

Do a search. These issues have been thoroughly covered. The latest firmware update helped the fans a lot in the Mirrored door model. There's a lot of heat generated in this model, however, so it's best placed in a machine room (something any serious studio should have, anyway). The three ATA busses including an ATA 100 bus in the newest 1 Ghz and 1.25 Ghz DP models is very nice, as is the faster 167 Mhz bus. Finally, I'm getting great video playback with my miro card. You can also mount four hard drives in the newest models, and the faster ATA 100 bus is useful. If you've waited this long, though, you might want to wait a bit longer and get in on the next batch of Macs. Supposedly, they'll only boot OSX, but by that time PT6 might be out. BTW, memory for these new machines is not very expensive. Shop around. Lee Blaske
