You can't put a PCI card in a powerbook. That's why everybody here is screaming at Digi for a firewire version of the 001.

Also, the new Powerbooks won't boot into OS9 so you'll have to wait for PT6. No OS9 music/audio apps will work on them.

yeah but PT 6 will be here by the time he gets his Powerbook. Maybe with Firewire 800 (blows the doors, hood and everything else off of USB2) and a 001 box is in the future. Just keep talking about it. Wiz

It depends on what you're going to use it for. You can spend 1/2 the money on a more powerful desktop machine, which can be easily expanded and has a faster hard drive (7200 rpms), and can hook up with the DIGI001. If you're going for portable, the laptop would be fine, but if it's your only music machine, it might not be a good idea. Remember that laptop hard drives run at a pretty slow speed, compared with a desktop machine, and that might introduce stutters into your music etc. -- at least in theory... Can anyone confirm that? My recommendation -- save a bit of money and buy a 5-month-old desktop machine, and spend the difference on music equipment and software....
