How can I take a section of a track and increase the volume? Just want to have a little boost for the guitar solo. Thanks

Hello drsongs... Automation is your friend :D Just click on "env" button in a Track, enable "Volume" envelope and draw your boost...

You have a number of options, these are the easiest. Either: Add a volume envelope to the track and raise it for the section you want it to be louder. Or: Split the item at the start and end of the section and raise the item volume handle (shift-click-drag up from top of item).

The track volume envelope is post-effects. You need to remember that. The item gain and the item-volume-envelope, or more accurately, the take-volume envelope is pre-effects. For the track volume envelope(any envelope), add envelope points by either right-clicking on the envelope and choose "Create a new point" or using the shortcut action. Next to the "Create a new point" action you will see the shortcut for that action. The default is Shift + Left-Click. You can move individual envelope points up or down, or the line connecting two envelope points. You can also select multiple envelope points. You might want to see what you can do in a test session, before editing your mixes. The item-take-volume envelope can be activated by right-clicking on the item, and choosing Take/Take volume envelope. That envelope behaves exactly like the track volume envelope.

My new favourite way of doing this is to draw a time selection over the part i want to raise the volume of, select the track in question, press 'v' (shortcut to bring up volume automation), then raise the fader on the new volume automation track.
