You don't need the extra Promise card on the A7V266 or A7V266-E. They both come with onboard Promise conrollers. However no one has tried it yet, I would say to go with the A7V266-E (if you can find one). It has the newest chipset, the KT266A, which is currently the fastest and most stable. However there is limited info on this board, the chipset seems to have worked the 001.
Go with the Asus A7V266-E. The "E" version has the updated Via KT266A chipset (as mentioned above) and it smokes the old version in performance and stability from everything I've read about it. I believe I've read of a few others on here using the KT266A chipset without problems. That is the system I'm looking at to upgrade from my PIII 933. I'm not sure to go with that or get one of the new dual CPU Athlon boards coming out. I'm trying to wait until Digi announces if the next version of PT LE is going to support Win2k/XP and dual CPUs. I would prefer to go with dual CPUs, but waiting for Digi to make the announcement could take a while. I may end up just going with the Asus A7V266-E just to have something really fast that works now. Just my $.02.
My advice would be to go for the GA-7DX as you won't necessarly need a controller with this board.( it is reliable) A few weeks ago people were having problems with asus MOBO's with the 4 in 1 drivers, anyway everyone I know say's they are not reliable. If want to be more up to date get the gigabyte: GA-7VTXH GA-7VTXE with the KT266A chipsets If you really want a controller go for the Promise Ultra133 TX2 Controller Card. I would advise you to check out www6.tomshardware.com

A7M266 or the A7V266 with DDR ram. Both of these boards are solid performers from a great company. Good luck. Allen
