Hi All, Great forum. Apologies in advance if this has been covered in before but was unable to find another example. Bought a (fantastic) '53 S60 D5 SE + Winter Pack + Geartronic in Titanium Grey in August 2006 from Main Dealer. Was at 85k miles (I know!) aged 2 years and 10 months, with a 1 year/20K used approved warranty (for what its worth!). Now has 99k miles aged 3 years 2 months. Apart from servicing costs that would make Bill Gates wince and a couple of shock absorbers, has been a fantastically comfortable car to drive and a very discreet rocket on the motorway. However, this week I noticed "bubbling" paintwork on driver's side C-pillar - only on the very thin strip (inch or so wide) that runs from rear windscreen all the way to the bottom of the front windscreen. No breakage in paint at all or scratches etc. No sign of any corrosion anywhere else. On further inspection, the whole thin strip on both sides looks to be a slightly darker colour than the rest of the car. I'm surprised to say the least, but will keep my rage under control in an effort to get it sorted out. I briefly discussed it with Squire Furneaux of Slough (not bought from them originally) when its been going for servicing who didn't feel it would be covered under warranty, and unfortunately didn't appear remotely interested at all in sorting it out. My question was do you know what Volvo's standard anti-perforation/paintwork warranty is? To me it quite clearly looks like defective workmanship/paint procedures - something I would have thought Volvo would have been keen to give a warranty on - unless all our cars are now painted by Fiat in a outsourcing agreement!!! Thanks for your help in advance.
If the corrosion is definitly coming from beneath the paint and wasn't caused by paintwork damage then it will be covered. Isn't the thin strip plastic anyway? Feels plasticy to me...
Hi, As mentioned above, you should be covered by the warranty. Take the car back to the dealers you got it from for a warranty fix.. Notice I mention the word Warranty several times... :) Welcome to the forums too and I hope you enjoy your stay here, as well as your Volvo.. Des. . . ;)

I too had the same issue. Rear trim - drivers side. It was bubbling up. And it's plastic! I initially dealt with the service dept at the stealer. They quoted 150$ CAN for the part - some minor $ for labor. I in turn contacted the sales person who sold the T5 S60 to me. Well, turned out to be a happy ending. VOLVO replaced the part n/c. Good luck on your endeavor! Angelo
Hi and welcome to the forum. I have the same bubbling on mine, at the bit on the rear windscreen however. It's not gotten any worse in the last year or two though and so far it's not bubbled through the paint - will get it changed if it does though. So far the colour matches the rest of the car - but then mine is a dark gret colour so wouldn't be as noticeable. Tony
Seems like another one of these common faults. Mine too has this problem, not really concerned about it at the moment as its a plastic piece. Seems strange that the paint is bubbling on plastic though... If anyone else has any joy with the dealer post here. Thanks, Mike
Didn't have the bubbling problem on my last S60 (didn't have it long enough) but do remember noting that there was "crazing" in the paint. As Mikey says...another of these common faults.
Noticed my drivers side plastic roof trim has started to bubble as it meets the bottom of the windscreen. Surely this is covered under the warranty? The outer surface is unmarked so the dammage has appeared underneath the finish? Anyone else had this and succesfully got it changed under warranty? cheers, Vipes
