Could we have an option to keep take size constant when changing rate. This is the main sticking point when I try to convince my fellow acid users to move to reaper. some examples: In the video when the rate is reduced, the take expands into the next take. Not advisable if the next bass take is of a different note, for obvious reasons. this video shows what happens when you pitch down a chopped break, very messy this is particularly annoying when pitching a series of notes down, because they all stretch to different lengths, meaning you can't select them all and resize them back to the right length. You have to resize them individually. If you do it from the item properties then it keeps the right item length and just changes the length of the audio inside it, but you can't change it by semitone, it's all done numerically. So the functionality is there, all we need is an action for it. Item properties: Decrease/Increase item rate by <>, clear 'preserve pitch', preserve item length Vote Here:

I'm confused. Wouldn't the "Item Properties: Pitch item ...yada yada" actions do what you need?

I'm not sure which actions you are referring to, do you mean the ones already present in reaper? If you do, the problem with these is that they don't keep the item size the same length, causing havoc if you try to pitch a selection of adjacent sliced items

Do you mean you want to be able to change pitch via a resample/varispeed BUT even though the process normally extends the length you want the "item" length to stay the same whilst the audio inside it is changed (in the same way changing the speed on a tape would) which would truncate the new item to keep it the same length as the original? This could probably be done with clever key commands but every other type of shift or stretch can be done via key commands already. Will check your video when i'm not on my mobile :) maybe it will become clear then! ;)

I think I get it now after mbn's explanation :) I didn't get you want to do that without time stretching, the old fashioned way. Would something like this work? (SWS extension needed) Time selection: set time selection to selected items Item Properties: Increase item rate by ~6% Go to end of time selection Xenakios/SWS: Trim/untrim right edge to edit cursor Go to start of time selection Xenakios/SWS: Trim/untrim left edge to edit cursor If it works, you could enccapsulate it with SWS save/restore time selection actions and SWS store/recall edit cursor position to get rid of the time selection and cursor position changes. Knocks on wood ;)

I'll give it a go! I've not quite got used to the lateral thinking required to produce macros like this yet

The macro works, but only for individual items. If you try it with multiple items then they are automatically consolidated into one. Any other ideas? I'm pretty useless at this kind of thing

Damn you're right. Close but no cigar :(. I guess I'm at my wit's end right there. Maybe SWS or one of the other extension gurus can do something about it? I'd ask in the developer forum and also on Tim's (SWS) site , as your official FR doesn't seem to get much traction.
