Getting this harddrive for live usage

Am I doing the right thing? I have a FW400 port in my Sony laptop which i wish to use live... Software I'll be using live : Kontakt 2, Sampletank 2 (playing SS2 and miroslav libs), linuxSampler, GURU, CSR, TRacks, other freebie effects, etc., Will need fast sample streaming (read only), no need to write fast. Not gonna record anything. Will power externally. Here are my findings from doing some research :

Jim could you tell me how this works. i.e. I don't have an eSATA port in my laptop. So i get the cardbus thingy and an eSATA drive and thats is? i.e. i have the performance of an eSATA drive as if the cardbus was an eSATA port?

Which adapter will you recommend? Which harddrive/adapter do you use? I plan on going to fry's today. I was also planning on getting an external sound card for live usage. Just need a pair of outs. I was looking at teh EMU0202, but I'm running ASIO4ALL now and i don't see WHY i should get teh soundcard. Can you advice me on this?

Is there an advantage with using an internal hdd + enclosure instead of just an external drive?

Thanks! The only thing I'm worried about is that the enclosure is not built for the road. The external hdd for the same price is "Built Ford Tough" to speak. And the external one looks less fragile. I'm willing to compromise a little performance if it means the external puppy is going to be well built for the road. Who knows how many times I'll drop this thing.
