i recently met some guys with a very nice private hub. so now i think about maybe gathering some people to start something similar. maybe best pm me on this one.. /jc
I used it for quite a while. Long enough to realize that it is a buggy insecure software/protocol. You should not leave it unattended. I know of people who can remotely fry and permanently crash the drives on which you share files. As in no way to reformat and re-use. It will be dead. Also there is no way to protect yourself from this.
i thought of a private server, only allowing very few users with high quality goodies. i wouldn't expect these to try and hack my drive. but u never know..
Perhaps you could explain how someone could permanently destroy a piece of hardware remotely by exploiting a bug in (open-source) software? (DC++, but even if you were talking about "real" DC). I'd be into it, but I'm already on a ubersecretultrahuge dc hub anyways. And no, its not running NeoModus software.
i kind of have the feeling, you pirated my thread into a technical discussion about direct connect. the intention of it was to gather a nicce crowd (who wouldn't kill each others hardware, that i am 99& sure about, since i know the people here for a while..) and run a very nice hub. this will surely not happen anymore. /jc

I don't know how good any of these are but here are some opensource Direct Connect Hubs. If you want advice on which is the best I would recommend that you got to and ask around there. Hope this helps.
thanx very much for the links. i just checked them quickly and i immediately found a linux-hub software, wich is great in terms of stability and i guess there should be less security issues with it.. i'll get into it next coupple of days and keep this thread informed.. /jc
