Hi, Recently got a new battery for my 940. The previous one had near all but expired.. :) Not bad for 5 years I suppose.. However, this new battery now seems to want attention too??!! I am thinking that the alternator has gone, but there is no warning lamp in the car for electrics at all... I know there is a tester that can tell what current is going into the battery - anyone got one locally I might borrow?? Or any ideas what it may be, given the no warning lamps.. Thanks all... Des. . . ;)

Des get you hands on a voltage meter and do the following tests 1/ start engine and measure the voltage on the 2 battery posts, your looking for around 13.5-14.5volts 2/ now you want to put some load on the system, so with the engine still running switch on the headlights, heater blower to full power and heated rear windscreen on all together. Measure the voltage again and you should still have around 13.5-14.5 volts. 3/ If the reading is too low, increase the engine revs to around 2000rpm and check voltage again

Accelerate hard, taking the engine revs up to the red line and see if any of the dash lights come on dimly. If so, regulator and/or brushes. Local car electrical supplier should sell regulator and brushes for a very reasonable price. Have the Bosch part number from the old regulator to hand when you call.
