Hi, I just installed the trial version of 64 bit Reaper on a Win 7 64 bit system with an i5 and 4GB of RAM. I'm using a Edirol UA-25 interface with the latest 64 bit driver. When I open Reaper, I get an error message that says "There was an error opening your audio hardware. Error initializing ASIO driver. Would you like to view your audio device configuration?" When I click yes, I'm brought to the dialog box containing a button for ASIO configuration, however clicking on this button does nothing. Thanks for reading and all suggestions are gratefully appreciated. Thanks! chrisbates

so let's see that should take you into the reaper preferences area, and into the audio part of that... If your interface asio does not show up there, what does show up? There should be other choices, such as WASAPI... which is built into Windows 7... Usually if your audio interface is not found by reaper it means something is amiss with either it's drivers or its set up. Is it found and recognized by the Windows control panel for Sound device?

Thanks for the reading and the reply... My interface has a 64 bit driver, which was recently updated when using Sonar. Sonar sees it, and allows me to make a few basic adjustments (latency slider) I have been having many stability issues with Sonar X2 which prompted me to get the trial of Reaper. Does re-installing the driver make any sense?

In ancswer to your question, I can change the driver mode to WASAPI and Reaper opens without the error message, however I read that Reaper prefers ASIO, and I'm interested in stability here, having spent most of my time in Sonar repairing software problems. The Options / Preferences dialog contains the ASIO config button, which does nothing when clicked. The 64 bit driver works with Sonar 64 bit but doesn't seem to in Reaper...

chris it clearly sounds like a driver problem to me... why X2 see's it and reaper does not is something I can't answer Reaper is generally very stable... and yes, ASIO is what we would like to have, and if possible the ASIO that is for your given audio interface... I also use Win7-64 bit and reaper 64 bit as do many others with a wide variety of audio interfaces and ASIO. So we know it works with all those sound cards... Now a few people who have had problems with their card's drivers have gotten and used ASIO4ALL which is an emulation of an ASIO driver... I suppose you could try that, but it's not the real solution. For the moment, you could use the WASAPI driver and see how it works for your needs with your sound card. Beyond that, it's going to be a question for the reaper developers along with the developers who wrote that driver. I would also do a little test: Download the 32 bit version of reaper Install it to a new folder [C:\Reaper 32 for example] and check the 'portable' box during the install [this will give a totally self contained version of reaper in that 'new' folder] Then see if that will see your ASIO driver.
