I was on a car detailing site a few weeks back and someone posted a rather interesting solution to this but it's not something you can do in half an hour. The jist of it was that you remove the trim from the car and degrease it to remove all traces of any products you've used in the past to try and restore the finish. The next step involves laying the bumper/trim stip etc on the floor and chocking it with wood or whatever to support it to keep its shape during the next step. The idea is then to take a heat gun and play it over the plastic surface to basically liquify the finish which, when it cools, brings the finish to an as-new condition.
