Hey, I was wondering if there was a way to listen to iTunes through my Firewire 1814 and through my converters which are hooked up via ADAT. I know that you can go to System Preferences/Sound and set it to the FW 1814 but I can't figure out how to make it go through ADAT 1-2 so I can listen on my main monitors. Is it even possible? Thanks!! -Ben
If your mains have an OPTICAL input, it would be S/PDIF and not ADAT. The formats are not compatible. S/PDIF is two-channel and ADAT is 8-channel. Can you use the S/PDIF RCA out?

nope, I am using ADAT. I have an 8 channel ADC/DAC (Mytek 8X192) and the monitor outs are fed from channels 1-2. I'm not having a problem monitoring PT, I just need to know if there's a way to route OSX's core audio through ADAT 1-2.
Itunes --> Computer -->Firewire 1814-->ADAT -->Monitors? The same way you would monitor protools. Use the firewire 1814 software mixer to send the output to the correct channels. This works on my machine. I can monitor through headphones or external speakers.

I've also been frustrated on this since it isn't obvious. Here's how to do it: open Audio Midi Setup and use these settings: Default Output: 1814 Properties for: 1814 click configure speaker button (this is the part I was missing) set to outputs 5 and 6 and click apply. (5 and 6 correlate to the ADAT optical 1 and 2 outputs. Of course you could set them to higher number if your speakers are hooked up to other outputs. ) Voila - itunes out of your adat converter
