volvo 480-headlights are winking at me.lol

I have done a lot of hard work on my volvo this weekend, went to the local scrapyard and got a few bits. I have fitted a new indicator stalk so now my indicators self cancel, sealed up all leaks with silicone, removed rear wiper motor and fitted grommet, because wires have broken where the come into the tailgate and solder won't take to them so decided just to remove it and put a grommet where the hole is.Swapped infocentre out with a second hand one and now working perfectly and nice and bright.Gave it a good clean inside and out and steam cleaned the engine etc. Anyway my motorised healdlights I have sort of fixed, replaced the relay with a second hand one and fitted new bonnet microswitch.Cleaned earths and checked connectors, now they go up and down together half the time but sometimes they keep going up and down when I turn them off and not in sequence doing a mexican wave sort of thing.Sometimes only one goes up and down etc.What would cause this? the c.e.m? My day running lights also are not coming on and I know this can cause probelms as their in the same circuit.Also does the dim dip relay in front of washer fluid tank control the motorised lights or day running lights in anyway? A Friend Of Mine Had The Same Problem With His 480 And We Think It Was Due To Damp Getting In Seen As This Only Started After Heavy Rain Fall.so Wd40 Over Everything And Let It Dry,i Noticed You Had Jet Washed The Engine This Is Were The Water Could Have Got In It Just Needs To Dry Out It Worked For My Mate Hope This Helps

I had this problem a few years ago on my wife's 480 - took ages to work out. My garage loved playing "bat the rat" with it and found it hilarious!! Anyway turned out to be a corroded bulb holder on the day running lights. Try removing bulb holder and cleaning or replacing. BTW, I once put a single filament bulb in day running light holder by mistake and this gave exactly the same effect. Hope this is some help - love 480's and still miss ours ('92 white turbo)

Fault resolved 

Adjusted headlight height adjustment sprayed wd40 on both motors and all moving parts, found passenger side light motor to be slightly seized, replaced as luckily I had a spare, looked in bulb holders and found corrosion on the part where the bulb sits in, sanded off corrosion and sprayed solvent and air duster on contacts.Then my day running lights started working which was nice and fitting the new motor wd40 evry moving part and sorting the day running lights cured the problem.Hope this helps other people too.
