hey, I've read the AC3 FAQ and downloaded the filters.. but i have a few questiobns tho, since i didnt thoroughly understand the faq. (note i did search the forums too) 1) Why couldnt i hear sound in the Divx movie in WinDVD 4 Plus or Media Player 8 before i had the filters? (because i did have a registered Windvd4 version and it should have worked shouldnt it?) 2) I couldn't configure the filter in WMP8, so i ran WMP6.4 and tried to configure the intervideo audio codec but only stereo mode could be selected, so i checked why and i read that it's because the doom9 filters are demo version. The question is, i had WinDVD4 Plus registered and even inside WinDVD4 i set it to 6 channels. I tried playback in windvd and Wmp8 but had no sound at all.. after the filters i have 2.1, so basicaly why didnt the intervideo filter kick in before installing the doom9 filters? coz i did have windvd installed.. 2) What exactly are the .ax files in the filters zip file? (where are they from, what do they do) 3) Are these filters going to take over/interfere with playback of dvds/svcds? thanks for the help!
So you read through the ac3 faq thoroughly in the audio forum and then thought it best to post ac3 questions in the general discussion forum? ;) -Nic ps possible answers: 1) the ac3 decoder isnt the only filter needed, you also need an avi to ac3 from avi XForm filter 2) basically the same as answer one (mpgaudio.ax is a decoder and has that above filter in it) 2 (again? ;) ) ) they are the actual dshow filters (they are also DLL files) 3) might do, might not...hopefully not ;) -Nic

hehe i decided to post here since that forum was the ENCODING forum :) but hey, the intervideo filter that is in there is a DEMO version. If ur saying that the package is made of a couple of dshow filters, so one of them is probably a file that is taken from WinDVD? So is there a way i could update one the package with the latest version of the dll/whatever ? That way i could use the same dll(.ax) file that i have with my current windvd version and plus i could select the number of speakers i want.
The intervideo audio codec is called iviaudio.ax version 2.6 dated 1999/1998... for god sakes that thing is as old as i dont know what! i have just installed windvd platinum, the iviaudio.ax file that was in there is version 4.5.11.0 and dated 2002.. (which should also support 24/96 audio, and upto 8 channels) So basically i should replace the iviaudio.ax from the package with the curent file. In fact, im not even sure why i ran that bat file, i could have just removed the line that registers iviaudio.ax that comes with the package, since i already have that file with WinDVD, so i only need the 2 other filters. That package could have been updated with the correct instructions. Btw, where can i get the latest versions of 2 of the other filters? since they are also old.... [edit]Ok i found the newest version of mmswitch.ax now i need to get the newest version of mpgaudio.ax but the file doesn't have any info so i cant find a new version.. If i'll find new versions of all the codecs i could make a new package and upload it to the downloads section ;)
hey, im continuing this thread: since not many people actually helped me there. so i still have many questions :) * So where exactly can i get a new version of mpgaudio.ax, and what exactly does it do? * I updated mmswitch.ax and iviaudio.ax with the newest versions, is it ok, or that package needs some modified files? * Even though i updated iviaudio.ax with the latest version (v2.6 -> 4.5.11) the configuration window interface (intervideo audio codec) is the same as it was of v2.6! Why is that? version 4.5.11 is supposed to add upto 8 channel support and 24/96 audio quality * Why do i have to set the speaker mode to 6 channels everytime i watch an ac3 movie? (it gets reseted to 2 channels all the time) * Why doesn't the sound gets decoded properly in WinDVD Platinum? the movie has ac3 audio, isn't windvd supposed to decode it?! thanks alot people!
