Anyone familiar with dub has heard the effect when an echo is sent back into it self and creates that wicked and wild dub echo effect that is crucial in dubwise. Reaper doesn't seem to have the ability to set up a send and have it feedback into itself. The routing possibilities in Reaper are phenomenal but there's some specific effect chains it just isn't capable of. Another example is an effect I have in Reason. 2 digital delays and a phaser. Send input into delay #1 left and right, delay #1 left output into phaser left input delay #1 right output into delay #2 left input delay #2 left output into phaser right input phaser outputs into track/return. With Reason all I have to do is hit the Tab key and route the effects where and how I like but Reaper has no way to set up a chain this way. To set up this particular effect chain doesn't work correctly "chaining" them in series. I've sent this query before and there was no solution offered if anyone has a clue on how I could achieve these things I'd be greatly appreciative, and eternally in their debt.

I just played with this for a minute and the only thing I couldn't figure out is how to route it all back to the track/return. I had to double up delay 1 and pan them hard left and right, and do the same with the phaser, which all seemed to work, but once I sent it all back to the source track it just cancelled everything out and left me with the original audio. I'll play with it some more, but if you have a hardware setup where you can run the original signal in and process the delays and phase through reaper and then return it on a separate input feeding the same track, that might be an option. I'm not sure why the sends to the source track seem to cancel out the sends from it, so maybe somebody else can answer that. I've got a couple more ideas to try out, though. Now I'm intrigued.

Try turning on "File / Project Settings / Advanced / Allow feedback in routing".

the floaty js effect can get nasty (has a built-in filter, soft-sat and clamp) if you just want the distorted dub echo thing.

It's just feedback. ArcDev industries has two free delay VSTs that will do this. Also try Variety of Sound's NastyDLA.

Steve Folta - I set that up but it seem to work backwards, although I can now get a snare to feedback into the echo I'm using GS-201 nofish - The video was a good starting point...Thanx I'm finally getting somewhere. The other fore mentioned efx is giving me serious grief. This is why I love this community. Level Vibes

I've got all of the Interruptor offerings, Analogic Delay is one of my go to delays. If I could get it to feed back into itself I'd be in King Tubby heaven. Dubbin' is a must....

Exactly. Use a feedback loop from the output of your effect chain to the input. I have a send on the snare channel going into the echo. I return the echo into a channel not a AUX Return, I want a send to 'feedback loop" on the echo channel. I dunno know if you're familar with Reason but if you have it set up an echo using the EFX send, return it to a mix channel. Then turn on the EFX send on itself use the send knob to send that signal back into itself. I do it all the time with both my Roland RE-201 and Yamaha SPX 90 through my Mackie 32 8 Buss. It's an old King Tubby, Lee Perry trick.
