I have been trying to convert my Star Wars Episode 1 DVD using XviD. The movie looks great but I can't get only the subs for when, for example the characters are speaking alien liek Jabba etc. There are 6 different English subs available when I rip the movie but when i view it, there are only 3 that are listed on my DVD player. I choose the second one which gives me only the subs for alien speech. Is there anyway I can verify which subtitle to choose? Am I missing something. Episodes 2-6 weren't a problem...I just chose "Force Subs Only".

You have to try each of the subtitles one at a time with force subs checked and unchecked until you chance upon the right combination. However you can use the preview feature to check each settings. Its slow, but faster than encoding the movie mutiple times. You should also write down a spot where you know there will be forced subtitles to save time when checking the previews. I am certain there is a faster way using another program, where you can rip all the subs then watch them. If you find out what it is let me know.

kis2005- You have 3 sets of subs in your player and 6 stored on the DVD because they come in pairs, one for 16:9 TVs and the other for 4:3 TVs. So the ones you want are probably the 3rd and 4th of the English subs. You can confirm by opening the IDX in Sub Resynch (in the Subtitle Tab of GKnot) and checking out the various sub streams. These aren't forced subs, as the alien talk has its own stream. Madibaman- Your problem seems to be unrelated to kis2005's and it's considered bad form to take the thread off topic. You'll have to open a new thread if you want help.

Actually the alien speak is still forced subs on this title. When I open the idx with sub resync (installed as part of autogk) I all the alien speak is marked as forced. The unforced subtitles are not rendering properly so I can't read them, but I think they are the top subs used to designate which commentator is speaking when the directors comments are turnd on.

OK, I stand corrected. So did you figure out which subs you want?

I have discoverd that VSRIP in combo with SubResync work nicely in detecting the correct sub settings for the Star Wars movies.
