I know this was possible on OS 9, does anyone know if it can be done on OS X? I want to keep using Logic for MIDI and softsynths, but start doing audio in PTLE. Already checked the archives, don't send me the link.

at this time, only one application can access the digidesign hardware any given time. this applies to when protools is running, or even when it is not. maybe this will be addressed in the future, maybe not... there's not a clear answer at this point in time, you'll just have to watch and wait.

Since my MIDI interface and the Digi001 are not the same unit, shouldn't I be able to control the MIDI interface from Logic and the 001 from PT LE? If so, all that remains is whether or not I can lock PT and Logic together (via MIDI, presumably) and then get the audio outs from Logic into PT somehow. We used to do this with directConnect but I understand that it isn't in PT 6 for OS X.
whataburger, why would you not want to consider Logic also for your audio work? It would run more tracks and plug-ins than PT LE etc...Some things might feel a bit tricky at first with Logic if you come from PT but it's possible to get a hang of all that pretty quickly. -Z
Hello. Your choices as they stand now are another sound card, another system and then sending audio and/or MIDI to either application, or using Reason and/or Live under Rewire. It does now what Direct Connect used to accomplish as you describe. However, Reason and Live are about the only 'clients' available to Pro Tools and Logic because they are both 'hosts' only. Also, because you have an 001, they are famous (or is it infamous?) for having IRQ glitches and PCI card slot placement issues. So if you are going with another sound card to run Logic you will probably have to do some testing to get it to work properly. You can also download demos of Reason and/or Live and see if they can do what you want Logic to do now. That way you can use Rewire. Good Luck.
